LAGOS POLICE NAB MOST NOTORIOUS HITMAN IN CITY’S HISTORY, WASIU AKINWANDE A.K.A. ‘OLORI ESHO’
In a major breakthrough in the war against violent crime, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended one of the most feared hired killers in the state’s history, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Esho.
According to a statement issued by the Command, Akinwande, 44, was arrested on Friday, June 20, 2025, by the Tactical Squad during a high-stakes special operation code-named Silence, Speed, and Surprise. The operation led officers to his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, where he was finally captured after years of evading law enforcement.
Described as the head of a deadly killer-for-hire gang and a notorious cultist kingpin, Akinwande has been linked to a decade-long reign of terror, especially in the Mushin area of Lagos. His criminal activities reportedly include a string of cold-blooded murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related violence that have haunted residents and claimed numerous lives.
“This arrest is a monumental victory for the people of Lagos State, particularly the Mushin community,” the police statement noted. “Wasiu Akinwande was the most wanted violent criminal in Lagos in recent memory, and his apprehension brings some measure of justice and relief to the victims and families affected by his brutality.”
During a raid on his Mushin residence, operatives recovered a cache of weapons believed to have been used in his operations. Items seized include:
- Two (2) AK-47 rifles
- One (1) K2 assault rifle
- One (1) Red Ryder rifle
- Three (3) pump-action rifles
The suspect reportedly confessed to owning the arms and orchestrating a series of violent crimes across several communities.
Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts to dismantle the rest of his network intensify. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has vowed that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring every accomplice faces the full weight of the law.
