NIGERIAN SCHOOL CROWNED CHAMPION OF INAUGURAL UK-NIGERIA DEBATE COMPETITION
In a remarkable display of intellect and eloquence, St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, has emerged as the grand champion of the first-ever UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, outshining both local and international contenders.
Held virtually on June 19, 2025, the competition brought together some of the brightest student debaters from top-ranking secondary schools across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
From Nigeria, participating schools included:
- Britarch Schools, Abuja
- Sure Start School, Abuja
- St. Augustine’s College, Jos
- St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu
The United Kingdom was represented by:
- Central Foundation Girls’ School
- Maghull High School
- Shireland High School
After navigating rigorous preliminary rounds, St. John Vianney Science College advanced to the finals, having confidently out-argued British rivals Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School.
The grand finale was an all-Nigerian face-off between St. John Vianney and St. Augustine’s College, Jos. In a compelling and high-stakes contest, the Anambra-based institution clinched a decisive victory, securing the coveted title of Inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Champions.
The win not only underscores the intellectual prowess of Nigerian students but also highlights the growing impact of international academic collaborations in shaping global discourse and excellence.
