Zenith Bank Opens Côte d’Ivoire Subsidiary, Appoints Cédric Tano to Drive Francophone Growth
By Olamiposi Olafihan | May 4, 2026| 11:48 am – Zenith Bank launched its Côte d’Ivoire subsidiary, marking a significant milestone in its Pan-African growth strategy and a calculated entry into Francophone West Africa.
The official opening ceremony, held on April 29, 2026, brought together senior government officials, financial regulators, and business leaders from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, underscoring the strengthening economic ties between the two markets.

Licensed in December 2025 by Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Finance and Budget and regulated by the UMOA Banking Commission, the new subsidiary will operate from its headquarters in Plateau, Abidjan, positioning itself within one of West Africa’s most strategic commercial hubs.
The expansion signals Zenith Bank’s intent to deepen financial intermediation within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), leveraging Côte d’Ivoire’s role as a regional gateway for cross-border trade and investment. The bank will prioritise corporate banking, trade finance, and structured financial solutions tailored to multinational and regional businesses.
Speaking on the development, Group Managing Director/CEO Adaora Umeoji described the launch as a strategic extension of the bank’s founding vision.
“This is a bold step in realising our ambition to build a truly global African banking brand, facilitating trade, investment, and enterprise growth across the continent,” she said.

The subsidiary will be led by Cédric Tano, a seasoned banking executive with over two decades of experience, who emphasised the bank’s commitment to combining global best practices with local market insight.
The move aligns with Zenith Bank’s broader continental expansion strategy, which includes plans to enter the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), with Cameroon identified as a key entry point.
With an existing footprint spanning Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, the United Kingdom, France, the UAE, and China, Zenith Bank continues to position itself as a bridge between African markets and global capital flows.
Founded in 1990, the bank remains one of Africa’s most capitalised financial institutions, holding the record for the highest Tier-1 capital in Nigeria’s banking industry for 16 consecutive years.
