“HE ABANDONED US AFTER FAME ” – ALLEGED RELATIVES OF VICTOR OSIMHEN CALL OUT SUPER EAGLES STRIKER
A viral video making the rounds on social media has sparked fresh controversy around Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, as two men claiming to be his relatives accuse him of abandoning his roots and family since rising to international stardom.
The footage, reportedly recorded in Edo State at what is said to be the Osimhen family house, features Omuyiwa John and Monday Egbe, who identify themselves as the footballer’s extended family members. Speaking in the local dialect and Pidgin English, the men allege that despite sharing the same grandfather with Osimhen and supporting his late father, Patrick Osimhen, during difficult times, the Napoli forward has severed ties with them.
“We all grew up here. We went to the same primary school. When his father returned from Lagos with nothing, the entire family rallied round to help him. We even contributed money to bury Osimhen’s mother,” one of the men recounted.
They further claimed that when Osimhen’s father passed away, the burial was held in Lagos without any involvement from the family in the village. According to them, the footballer has not visited the community or extended any form of support since attaining fame.
The video also referenced the pride the village once felt, noting how the Edo State governor allegedly donated a television set to the local palace so villagers could watch Osimhen’s matches during national tournaments.
“Everyone was happy when he made it big. But now, he doesn’t remember us. Not even a single visit or show of appreciation,” one of the men lamented.
As the video continues to gain traction online, neither Victor Osimhen nor his representatives have publicly responded to the claims.
