WIKE SLAMS WALKOUT ON FIRST LADY IN RIVERS, CALLS IT A ‘SHOW OF SHAME ’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has condemned the walkout staged by a group of women loyal to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during an empowerment event attended by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The incident occurred at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt during the Renewed Hope Initiative program designed to empower 500 women. Reports indicate that some of the women, led by sacked local government vice-chairmen aligned with Fubara, exited the venue in protest after allegedly being replaced on the programme list by Wike loyalists.

Wike, currently on an official visit to China, described the incident as a “show of shame” and an “embarrassment to Rivers people.” In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the former Rivers Governor offered an unreserved apology to President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady on behalf of the people of the state.

“As for me and those who subscribe to my leadership, we condemn in totality yesterday’s show of shame,” Wike said. “We apologise to our First Lady for the embarrassing conduct of those few women who do not represent the character and ideals of Rivers people.”

He further accused Governor Fubara of orchestrating the protest, claiming that the incident was part of a larger pattern of political provocation.

Wike urged Fubara to be forthright with President Tinubu about his intentions. “It is not enough to be visiting people to plead for peace,” he said. “Those who genuinely want peace must work and act for it.”
