Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to Be Arraigned Over Cybercrime, National Security Charges

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai is set to be arraigned on February 25 on charges of alleged cybercrime and breach of national security, the State Security Service (SSS) has confirmed.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has assigned the case to Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, following the filing of a three-count criminal charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/99/2026. The charges stem from El-Rufai’s February 13 appearance on a television programme, during which he made statements about intercepting communications of the Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA).
According to court documents, the SSS accuses El-Rufai of unlawfully intercepting the NSA’s telephone communications without lawful authority — an offence said to contravene provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024 and the Nigerian Communications Act (2003). The prosecution also alleges that he failed to report the alleged interception to security agencies and that the act compromised public safety and national security.
