The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially halted impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
The motion to suspend the impeachment process was passed during the House’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday, February 19.
This development comes just a week after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened in the ongoing political impasse between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Earlier in January, House members aligned with Minister Wike had issued an impeachment notice against Governor Fubara and his deputy, citing allegations of gross misconduct. The suspension of the proceedings marks a pause in the tense political confrontation within Rivers State.
