Death has once again struck the Nigerian Senate as Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the 10th Assembly, has passed away at the age of 64.

Until his death, Senator Mpigi served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, where he played an active role in legislative oversight and national infrastructure development. During plenary sessions, he was known for his contributions to debates on national growth and environmental governance, particularly concerning the Niger Delta region.

The late lawmaker was also a close political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. In a recent political shift, he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
