Dangote Reports Ex‑NMDPRA Boss To EFCC Over Corruption Allegations

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has formally approached the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with a petition accusing former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, of corruption and abuse of office.
According to a statement from the Dangote Group, the petition was filed on Friday at the EFCC headquarters. Dangote’s legal team is urging the agency to investigate alleged financial misconduct, which reportedly involves millions of dollars spent in ways inconsistent with lawful earnings. The group says it is ready to provide documentary evidence to support the claims.
This action follows an earlier petition Dangote filed with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which was later withdrawn to allow the EFCC to take over the matter. The ICPC has indicated it will continue its investigations regardless of the withdrawal.
The EFCC has not publicly responded to the petition or outlined any next steps. Observers say the case could mark a high-profile crackdown on public office abuse and is likely to attract national attention given Dangote’s prominence and influence.
