A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of several prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) traveling from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gombe State.

According to preliminary eyewitness accounts, the 18-seater bus conveying the graduates crashed earlier today along a northern highway after reportedly losing control.

Sixteen of the eighteen passengers are feared dead, while the two survivors are said to be in critical condition and receiving emergency medical attention.

The victims were young graduates heading to begin their national service, an annual civic exercise meant to promote unity and national development. The crash has sparked widespread grief across social media platforms and within the AFUED community.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is expected to commence a full investigation into the cause of the accident. As of the time of this report, neither the NYSC management nor the Presidency has issued an official statement.

This incident adds to ongoing concerns about the safety of interstate transportation for prospective corps members, especially those traveling long distances to orientation camps across the country.
