Man Shocked After Scraping Thick Wax Off Apple In Viral Video
A new video circulating on social media has sparked fresh concerns about the safety of imported fruits after a Nigerian content creator filmed himself scraping thick layers of wax off an apple.
In the video, the man explains that he had seen similar clips on TikTok and Instagram but wasn’t certain they were real until he decided to try it himself. According to him, he is currently in Nigeria, not the US or UK, when he made the discovery.
Holding up the apple, he described how unusually shiny it was before reaching for a knife to test its surface. As he scraped, a noticeable layer of white wax began to peel off.
He expressed shock as he tilted the knife toward the camera, showing the accumulating residue.
“Look at all that stuff coming off,” he said repeatedly, astonished by how much wax coated the fruit. “It’s all over… look at this, yo. Look at this. That is an apple.”
Wax coatings on apples are commonly used globally to preserve moisture, extend shelf life, and maintain the fruit’s appearance during transportation. While food-grade wax is generally considered safe, poor-quality or excessive wax coatings, especially on fruits imported through irregular channels, continue to raise public concern.
