POLICE OFFICER K^LLED, ANOTHER INJURED IN BANDITS’ AMBUSH ON PATROL TEAM IN KATSINA
At least one police officer has been confirmed dead and another injured after suspected armed bandits ambushed a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the deadly attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, near Government Science Secondary School along the Kankara–Kafi Road. The officers were said to be on a farm clearance operation when they came under sudden gunfire.
A police source revealed that the patrol team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun duel, during which Inspector Yahaya Bello was fatally wounded. He was later confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Kankara.
Another officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sani Suleiman, attached to 27 PMF Katsina, sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Medical personnel say he is responding positively to treatment.
The incident highlights the growing threat posed by bandits in the region and the risks faced by security operatives working to protect rural communities in northern Nigeria.
