ELON MUSK SLAMS TRUMP-BACKED ‘ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ’ AS A “DISGUSTING ABOMINATION”
Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has launched a scathing attack on former President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending legislation, calling the measure a “disgusting abomination” in a series of posts on his social platform, X.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote on Tuesday. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Officially titled the One Big Beautiful Bill, the legislation seeks to extend the Trump-era 2017 tax cuts, ramp up spending on border security and defense, and implement deep cuts to social safety net programs, including Medicaid and food assistance. The bill, which passed the House last month, is currently under review in the Senate, where lawmakers are expected to introduce amendments.
Musk’s sharp criticism comes days after he stepped down from his advisory role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal initiative he had previously overseen. In an earlier interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Musk claimed the bill “undermined” DOGE’s mission and contradicted efforts to reduce wasteful government spending.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) defended the legislation, stating in media appearances that he had personally explained the bill’s provisions to Musk via a “long text message.” Johnson emphasized that the bill, advancing through the reconciliation process, is not a traditional omnibus package and allows Republicans to sidestep a potential Democratic filibuster in the Senate.
The Speaker also confirmed plans to fast-track a separate $9.4 billion package that codifies DOGE’s proposed budget cuts targeting foreign aid and public broadcasting—an effort the White House is now forwarding to the Senate.
In a follow-up post, Musk warned that the legislation would “massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”
Responding during a White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion.”
