NAPTIP RESCUES TRAFFICKED BAB¥ SOLD FROM ABUJA TO ABA, ARRESTS SUSPECT
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued a baby boy, now identified with the alias Godswill Kalu Awa, who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba earlier in February 2025.
In an official statement released on Monday, May 19, 2025, NAPTIP confirmed that the child was recovered on May 14 by its Abia State Command, following a coordinated operation.
According to the agency, the suspect behind the trafficking was apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abia and subsequently handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation.
Preliminary findings reveal that the suspect allegedly collaborated with three notorious trafficking syndicates based in Abuja, who are currently on the run. The child was reportedly sold to a buyer, with the syndicates allegedly receiving N1.8 million from the illegal transaction, while the suspect claimed she was paid N100,000 for her role.
NAPTIP is now calling on the biological parents or any relatives of the rescued child to urgently contact the Agency to aid in further investigations and reunification.
