DELTA POLICE ARREST WOMAN FOR ALLEGEDLY DRUGGING MOTHER, ABDUCTING 2-MONTH-OLD BABY
Police authorities in Delta State have apprehended a 49-year-old woman for allegedly abducting a two-month-old baby after drugging the child’s mother with sedative-laced juice during a business trip.
The arrest was disclosed by the State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, during a press briefing held at the state police command headquarters in Asaba on Thursday, May 15.
According to CP Abaniwonda, the incident occurred on February 16, 2025, when the victim—a 20-year-old woman—embarked on a business trip with the suspect, identified as Mrs. Joy, from Koko to Warri. During the journey, the suspect allegedly offered the victim juice containing a sedative. The young mother reportedly fell asleep after consuming the drink, during which the suspect fled with her baby.
A formal complaint was lodged at Ekpan Police Station on April 7, prompting officers to launch a discreet, intelligence-led investigation.
“Following actionable intelligence, our officers tracked and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, she confessed to abducting the child,” CP Abaniwonda said.
The baby, now five months old, was safely recovered and has since been reunited with his parents. The suspect remains in custody as further investigations continue.
The Commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and warned members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when traveling with unfamiliar individuals.
