SUSPECTED VANDAL ELECTROCUTED WHILE ATTEMPTING CABLE THEFT

A yet-to-be-identified man was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalize armored electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat Complex in Dutse.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, in an official statement.
According to the police, officers responded to a distress call from the State Ministry of Works around 10:00 a.m. regarding an unusual discovery at the Secretariat’s new complex.
“Upon arrival, our team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division, found the lifeless body of a male adult under a concrete slab housing armored cable wiring,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual had been electrocuted while attempting to tamper with high-voltage electrical cables. The body, already showing signs of decomposition, was evacuated to the Dutse General Hospital for medical examination.
SP Lawan described the incident as a stark reminder of the grave dangers and illegality of tampering with public infrastructure.
“This act of vandalism is both criminal and life-threatening. We strongly warn against such conduct and reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding public assets and infrastructure across Jigawa State,” he said.
The Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals to security authorities. Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
