CANNES CLAMPS DOWN ON ‘NAK£D DRESSES’ WITH NEW RED CARPET DRESS CODE 

Say goodbye to sheer chaos and hello to sophistication! The Cannes Film Festival is officially tightening the style reins with a bold new rule: no more risqué outfits on the red carpet.

After years of eyebrow-raising ensembles and barely-there gowns dominating the festival’s famous steps, organizers have rolled out a stricter dress code “for the sake of decency.” This year, stars and attendees will be expected to cover up or risk being denied entry.

The updated rulebook comes just in time for the 78th edition of the prestigious festival, which kicks off this week with the premiere of French director Amélie Bonnin’s Leave One Day. According to the official guidelines, “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet and across all festival areas,” making it clear that the era of ‘naked dresses’ at Cannes may be coming to an end.

“The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules,” reads a now-circulating document from the organizers.

So, what’s still allowed? Think classics and elegance: floor-length gowns, little black dresses, cocktail numbers, pant-suits, dressy tops, and chic sandals (heels optional) all make the cut. For the gents, suits and dinner jackets remain the go-to.

While the red carpet has long been a space for bold fashion statements, Cannes is signaling a return to old-school glamour. Whether Hollywood and the international fashion crowd will fall in line remains to be seen—but one thing’s for sure: this year’s style parade will be a whole lot more covered-up.
