KAMO NAMES NEWBORN AFTER FUNKE AKINDELE
In a heartwarming gesture that has captivated fans and industry watchers alike, popular Nigerian skit maker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, famously known as Kamo State, has named his newborn child after Nollywood heavyweight Funke Akindele, in appreciation of her extraordinary support during a defining period in his life.
The comic star, who recently welcomed his first child with his wife Esther, took to social media to recount how Akindele played a pivotal role throughout the pregnancy journey, from prenatal care to delivery and even postnatal support.
“I informed her late about the pregnancy,” Kamo shared, “yet she insisted on sponsoring everything—delivery, hospital bills, and even the naming ceremony.”
According to Kamo, the actress, known for her philanthropic gestures and mentorship within the entertainment space, went as far as putting her personal driver and security team on standby to ensure his wife’s safe hospital visits. She also linked them up with a top Lagos-based doctor, covered their medical expenses in full, and is currently sponsoring the naming ceremony, footing bills for catering, outfits, and logistics.
The naming event, which saw a host of family, friends, and entertainment colleagues in attendance, crowned Funke Akindele as “Grandma of the Day”—a title symbolic of her maternal role in the couple’s life. In what many have described as the ultimate token of gratitude, Kamo revealed that his child now bears a name inspired by or dedicated to the actress.
