SINGER PORTABLE SENTENCED TO THREE MONTHS IMPRISONMENT

An Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo Local Government Area has sentenced controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, to three months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.
Portable was found guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The incident occurred in March 2023 when the singer reportedly attacked a police inspector and obstructed officers who were attempting to serve him an arrest warrant.
During the hearing, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, informed the court that Portable committed the offense on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. at Okeosa, Ilogbo, in the Ifo Magisterial District.
The charge sheet revealed that Portable and others, still at large, conspired to commit felony—specifically assault—an offense contrary to Section 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Further charges stated that Portable assaulted one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi by beating him repeatedly, in violation of Section 351 of the same code. He was also accused of stealing musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone, contravening Sections 383, 384, and punishable under Section 390.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found the singer guilty on two counts. He was sentenced to one month in prison with a ₦10,000 fine option for Count 1 and two months with a ₦20,000 fine option for Count 2.
