DELTA STATE NURSING STUDENTS REJECT FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU AS “OUR MOTHER” IN VIRAL VIDEO

A video circulating on social media has captured students of the Delta State School of Nursing rejecting the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as “our mother” during her recent visit to the state.

The First Lady was in Delta State as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a project aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. During the visit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised her commitment to the country’s development, particularly in the health sector. He described her as a driving force behind transformational changes and commended the impact of the RHI since its launch in 2023.

As part of the event, professional kits were presented to South-South governors’ wives, who serve as RHI coordinators in their respective states. The First Lady also paid a courtesy visit to the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, where she met with monarchs, led by the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.

However, a moment that sparked widespread reactions occurred when the event’s Master of Ceremony (MC) introduced Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother.” The students, however, vocally rejected the title.

While the MC declared, “Na our mama be this” (translated as “this is our mother”), the students countered in unison, saying, “Na your mama be this” (“this is your mother”).

First Ladies are traditionally referred to as the “mother of the nation,” but the rejection has fueled speculation about growing public dissatisfaction with the Bola Tinubu administration. Many Nigerians have decried the rising cost of living, inflation, and insecurity under the government, with some linking the students’ reaction to these hardships.

Recently, a 30-day Rant Challenge was launched online, where Nigerians have been sharing their frustrations over the economic struggles and governance issues under Tinubu’s leadership.
