NOLLYWOOD MOURNS AS VETERAN ACTRESS NKECHI NWEJE PASSES AWAY AT 60
The Nollywood industry has been plunged into mourning following the passing of veteran actress Nkechi Nweje, who died on Friday at the age of 60 after a brief illness.
The news was confirmed on Saturday by film producer Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop. Sharing his grief on Instagram, he posted a picture of the late actress alongside a heartfelt tribute.
“Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant actresses, @nkechi.nweje, after a brief illness. I couldn’t post since morning because it felt like a dream. Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha, rest in peace, ma’am. My best friend, she always called to advise me. The last time we spoke was during the Queenth saga. She said, ‘Ontop, stop.’ I’m still speechless.”
Renowned for her powerful and compelling motherly roles, Nweje built a remarkable legacy in Nollywood, earning the love and admiration of fans and colleagues alike. Her passing has left a significant void in the industry.
Veteran actress Rita Edochie also paid tribute, sharing a solemn candlelight image with the words: “This world is really not our home.” Other Nollywood stars, including Destiny Etiko and Anita Joseph, joined in mourning her loss.
Nkechi Nweje is survived by her husband and six children. May her soul rest in peace.
