“I AM 40, SINGLE, AND CHILDLESS —AND THAT’S OKAY” – TOKE MAKINWA OPENS UP

Renowned media personality Toke Makinwa has opened up about navigating life at 40 as a single, childless woman. The former on-air personality, who celebrated her milestone birthday late last year, shared her reflections on a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments.

Toke candidly admitted that if she had remarried, she would have likely gone through another divorce, emphasizing that life’s lessons never truly end. Despite societal pressures, she refuses to dwell in self-pity and instead chooses to focus on her achievements and the love that surrounds her.

“I am 40, I am single, and I am childless. I said it, and I didn’t die. That always made me tear up. I used to wonder—how am I 40 and don’t have a child? How am I 40 and single? How am I 40 and alone? But if I’m honest, if I had gotten married again, I would have been divorced because the lessons never stop. I am grateful for my journey, for where I am, and for turning 40. I look at my life—I’m 40 and a boss. I’ve built an empire, I’m one of the most recognized voices in Africa, I have the love of family, and I’m in great health. I love what I do, and I wake up every day fulfilled.”

Toke also addressed misconceptions about her stance on relationships and marriage. She made it clear that despite public perception, she is not against men or marriage but rather an advocate for it.

“People think I hate men or that I bash marriage, but that’s far from the truth. I love love, and I truly believe in marriage because two are better than one.”

Reflecting on Her Past Marriage

Toke was previously married to fitness expert Maje Ayida, but their union ended in 2016 after two years, following Ayida’s infidelity and the birth of a child with another woman. Reflecting on the ordeal, she recalled being unfairly blamed for the marriage’s failure, despite being the one who was betrayed. The experience, she noted, was deeply traumatizing.

In June 2024, Toke fired back at a troll who mocked her for still being unmarried. Responding with grace, she expressed her belief that God’s timing is perfect and that when her time comes, even her critics will celebrate with her.

Through it all, Toke Makinwa remains steadfast, embracing her truth and proving that success, happiness, and fulfillment are not tied to marital status or motherhood.
