LAWMAKERS STORM HIGH COURT OVER OBASA’S REMOVAL

On Friday, February 28, 2025, over 35 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly stormed the Lagos State High Court for the hearing of a suit filed by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Obasa is challenging his removal by 36 colleagues on January 13, 2025, claiming he was ousted while out of the country.
On Thursday, February 27, Obasa made a bold move by storming the Assembly Complex, declaring, “I’m back in charge!” This was his first appearance since his impeachment over allegations of misconduct and financial impropriety.
Meanwhile, in a twist, security details for his successor, Mojisola Meranda, were withdrawn the same day. Meranda’s media aide, Victor Ganzalo, confirmed the withdrawal, stating that all security personnel at the complex had been pulled back.

Obasa, however, claims his security has been restored and that he’s officially back as Speaker. But the House isn’t having it! In a statement by spokesman Steve Ogundipe, the Assembly condemned Obasa’s actions, calling his attempt to convene a plenary session “unconstitutional” and lacking proper procedures.
The House reiterated its commitment to upholding legislative integrity and working with the APC leadership to resolve the crisis in the interest of Lagosians.
