Abubakar Malami Tells Court He Earned ₦374m Salary, ₦10.17bn From Businesses as He Seeks Release of Seized Properties

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has told a Federal High Court that he legitimately earned billions of naira during and outside his time in public office, as he seeks to vacate an interim order directing the seizure of 57 properties allegedly linked to him.
According to court documents, Malami stated that he earned ₦374 million from salaries, ₦10.17 billion from his private businesses, and ₦958 million received as gifts from personal friends. He argued that the properties under dispute were acquired through lawful means and not proceeds of crime.
The former AGF made the disclosure while challenging the interim forfeiture order, insisting that the assets were wrongly linked to him without sufficient evidence. He urged the court to lift the seizure, describing the action as unjust and damaging to his reputation.
The case has continued to draw public attention, with many Nigerians closely following the proceedings due to Malami’s former position as the nation’s chief law officer and the scale of assets involved.
