AL HILAL: OSIMHEN RETURNS TO NIGERIA AMID TRANSFER TALKS
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has returned to Nigeria from Istanbul, with sources indicating that he is set to make a final decision regarding a high-profile move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a post on Saturday, stating:
“Victor Osimhen arrives in Nigeria today from Istanbul as he will inform clubs on his decision soon. Al Hilal are prepared to seal the deal with medical tests booked to bring him to the FIFA Club World Cup… waiting for his final decision by tomorrow.”
However, despite Al Hilal’s aggressive pursuit, Turkish giants Galatasaray have reportedly intensified efforts to retain the Nigerian forward, following his initial reluctance to join the Saudi Pro League outfit.
Amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future, the football world has reignited a familiar debate: Who is better—Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen or Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia?
The duo, who rose to prominence as teammates during Napoli’s triumphant 2022/2023 Serie A campaign, have since moved on to new European clubs but continue to dominate headlines with their individual performances.
Osimhen, who now stars for Galatasaray, has been instrumental in their domestic double, netting an astonishing 36 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. Kvaratskhelia, on the other hand, has been dazzling fans at Paris Saint-Germain, helping the French champions secure a historic treble—comprising Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
The debate has spread like wildfire across social media, with sports analysts, fans, and public figures weighing in.
Popular entertainer Freedom Atsepoyi, known as Mr Jollof, threw his weight behind Kvaratskhelia, commending the Georgian’s vision, creativity, and playmaking flair.
“Kvaratskhelia is more complete in terms of creativity and ball control. He dictates play and brings flair that’s hard to ignore,” Mr Jollof said.
In contrast, Osimhen’s close friend Vincent Otse, popularly called VDM, defended the Nigerian forward’s legacy, highlighting his consistent goal-scoring record and physical dominance.
“Victor is a top-tier striker. His numbers speak for him. He’s carried Galatasaray this season and delivered in the biggest games,” Otse noted.
Football analyst Monday Izegagbe also praised both players, acknowledging their contributions to Napoli’s title-winning season.
“They were both instrumental in Napoli’s success, but Osimhen’s impact at Galatasaray this season is undeniable. He’s been a game-changer,” Izegagbe said.
He also acknowledged Kvaratskhelia’s brilliance in PSG’s treble-winning season, calling it “an elite level of performance.”
Another fan, Mr. Azuka Izu, offered a balanced view, suggesting the comparison is tricky given their different roles.
“Osimhen is a finisher, a goal poacher. Kvaratskhelia is a creator. Their values are different, but equally important to their teams,” he explained.
