DESMOND ELLIOT RECOUNTS NARROW ESCAPE DURING ENDSARS PROTESTS

Nollywood actor turned lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has revealed that he narrowly escaped being burnt alive after his office in Surulere was attacked by unidentified assailants during the EndSARS protests in October 2020.

Speaking in a recent interview with Nollywood On Radio, Elliot, who represents Surulere constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, recounted the harrowing incident, which he described as one of the most terrifying moments of his life.

According to him, the attack occurred on a night he couldn’t return home to Lekki due to the government-imposed curfew. Instead, he opted to spend the night in his Surulere office. While watching television, he was jolted by the sound of his landlady’s daughter screaming, trying to protect him by shouting, “He doesn’t stay here!”

Moments later, the situation escalated when a bottle filled with fuel—a Molotov cocktail—was thrown into his office, igniting a fire.

“I have never been so scared in my life,” Elliot said. “When the curfew was declared, a lot of bad boys came into Surulere. I couldn’t go home to Lekki, so I went back to my office. I had no idea there was going to be trouble. I was watching TV, intending to spend the night there, when I heard the girl screaming outside.”

“That was when I knew something was wrong. Suddenly, a bottle filled with fuel and fire was thrown into my office. I had to call the Chief of Staff for help—it was horrible.”

Elliot faced heavy backlash at the time for comments he made during a House session where he referred to protesting youths as “children.” His remarks further fueled public outrage amid national tensions surrounding the EndSARS movement.
