Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have thwarted a planned attack on Elebe Village in the Aleniboro area of Atisbo Local Government Area, Oyo State, resulting in the deaths of two suspected armed men. The operation, described by police as intelligence‑led and timely, prevented a potentially deadly assault on the rural community.

According to a statement by the police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, about ten armed suspects had concealed themselves in a farm settlement near Elebe Village with plans to strike under cover of darkness. The suspects were reportedly armed with two AK‑47 rifles, single‑barrel guns, and locally made pistols.

The breakthrough came after a resident alerted security forces to the presence of the heavily armed group. Acting swiftly, police deployed tactical teams in collaboration with Agbekoya and local hunters from the area. On sighting the advancing security operatives, the suspects opened fire, prompting a gun duel in which two were neutralised while others fled with suspected bullet wounds.

Items recovered at the scene included firearms, ammunition and other objects believed to be linked to the planned attack. The area has since been secured, and police say that a wider combing operation is ongoing to apprehend any fleeing suspects and eliminate residual threats to villagers.

The Command reiterated its appeal for community cooperation and urged residents to remain vigilant. Members of the public are encouraged to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security formation.

This operation comes against a backdrop of heightened security challenges in parts of southwestern and northern Nigeria, where banditry and terror‑linked violence continue to threaten rural communities.
