Suspected Criminals Rounded Up In Enugu as Police Seize Weapons and Drugs

The Enugu State Police Command has reported significant arrests and seizures following coordinated operations targeting criminal elements in the state. Police say they have detained several suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, and hard drugs in separate operations carried out earlier this year.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested two men, Emmanuel Mba (31) and Nnam Onukwube (35), on January 19 in the Awkunanaw area of Enugu South Local Government Area. The pair reportedly confessed to membership in the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, with Mba identified as the group’s leader and executioner in the area.
Police seized a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated Beretta-type pistol, 31 live cartridges, a large wrap of what is suspected to be cannabis sativa, a laptop, and a motorcycle from the suspects.
In a related operation on January 31 in the Agbani axis, officers detained eight individuals in alleged criminal hideouts. After screening, Monday Ezeani (32) was found in possession of a dried substance believed to be cannabis sativa and 39 pellets of suspected crystal methamphetamine (locally known as “mkpuru-mmiri”). The remaining suspects were released after preliminary investigations.
The Enugu police leadership reinforced their commitment to curbing crime in the state, urging those involved in armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking to repent or face “the full weight of the law.”
These recent arrests align with broader enforcement efforts by the state command, which has in recent weeks and months conducted multiple intelligence-led operations targeting drug peddling, cultism, and other criminal networks across the Enugu metropolis.
As police continue discreet investigations and further arrests, authorities have reiterated the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with security agencies to ensure a safer environment for residents.
