A shocking crime has emerged from Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra State, where an 18‑year‑old apprentice has been arrested for allegedly killing his boss with a kitchen pestle following a violent altercation on Sunday.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect, identified as Chiemerie, reportedly struck his boss, known simply as Iyke, on the head with a pestle after an argument erupted over alleged misconduct. The conflict is said to have started when the boss scolded his apprentice over accusations of pilfering shop money, taking drugs, and returning home late at night.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the victim, who was a trader at the Ogbo‑Ogwu Bridgehead Medicine Market, was rushed to a nearby hospital following the attack but tragically did not survive his injuries. The violent incident shook residents of the area, many of whom rushed to the scene as tensions ran high.
The police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, and the pestle used in the attack has been recovered as evidence. State authorities say investigations into the matter are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
This incident has reignited discussions around workplace relationships, youth behaviour, and the pressing need for guidance, discipline, and conflict de‑escalation in apprentice‑master settings across local markets. It also underscores broader concerns about how unresolved disputes can quickly turn deadly if not handled with patience and effective intervention.
