Six Assignments Daily: Lagos Mother Cries Out Over Children’s Excessive Homework

A Lagos-based mother has sparked widespread conversation online after lamenting the increasing burden of homework being placed on young schoolchildren, revealing that her five-year-old child receives as many as six assignments every day.
“The assignment is becoming too much. We don tire, oh. We are getting six assignments every single day. I just finished doing projects for my five-year-old. At this point, the project is giving oil company project. Abeg, make una help us. Lagos State government should look into it,” she said.
The mother also expressed concern about the physical and mental wellbeing of the children, noting that many barely have time to rest or play.
“They wake up by six, stay in school till afternoon, come back, do assignments, sleep and wake up. They’re acting like zombies. Pikin wey I born 2020, na hin una pack seven assignments give?”
Her outcry has resonated with many parents, reigniting debates around early childhood education, homework policies, and the balance between academic rigor and a child’s wellbeing.
