Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have recorded a significant operational victory under Operation IGBO IDANU I, dealing a strategic blow to a notorious terrorist network linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu in Kogi State.
According to the Army, the operation saw troops advance through dense forests, difficult terrain, and multiple riverine obstacles, demonstrating exceptional resilience, professionalism, and tactical discipline. Despite movement challenges caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the soldiers pressed forward with determination, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s resolve to dismantle terrorist strongholds and restore security.
The operation was personally led by the Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, who directed troops to dismount and advance on foot to achieve tactical surprise. This bold manoeuvre enabled the force to penetrate deep into the terrorist enclave and completely overrun the camp.
Although the terrorists fled upon sighting the advancing troops, a thorough exploitation of the area led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandoliers of 250 rounds each, as well as one box of high-velocity grenades. The Army noted that these recoveries have severely degraded the terrorists’ operational and logistics capacity.
