British Woman, 23, Shot Dead by Father In Texas After Argument About Donald Trump

A British woman, Lucy Harrison, 23, has tragically died after being shot by her father during a visit to his home in Prosper, Texas, following a heated argument about then‑U.S. President Donald Trump, an inquest in England has heard.
Lucy, from Warrington, Cheshire, was in Texas with her boyfriend, Sam Littler, preparing to return home to the UK when tensions flared on January 10, 2025. The argument reportedly began over political views and gun ownership, topics that had previously caused strain between Lucy and her father, Kris Harrison.
According to court testimony, the dispute intensified when Lucy asked her father how he would feel if she were sexually assaulted, a question tied to broader discussions about violence and politics. Her father allegedly responded that, because he had other daughters, it “would not upset him that much,” leaving Lucy visibly upset and sending her upstairs.
About 30 minutes later, as Lucy and her boyfriend were preparing to leave for the airport, Kris Harrison led his daughter into his ground‑floor bedroom, where he kept a Glock 9mm handgun. Seconds after entering the room, a loud shot rang out. Her boyfriend ran in to find Lucy lying on the floor with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Harrison later told the inquest that the gun discharged “suddenly” as he lifted it to show her, claiming he did not know whether his finger was on the trigger.
Authorities noted that Harrison had consumed alcohol earlier in the day and had a history of alcohol addiction. Prosper police investigated the case as a potential manslaughter, but a Collin County grand jury declined to indict him, meaning no criminal charges were filed in the United States.
At the Cheshire Coroner’s Court, the inquest continues to examine the circumstances of Lucy’s death. In statements read to the court, Harrison expressed deep remorse, saying he carries the weight of the tragedy every day.
Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as a “real force of life” who was passionate, engaged, and unafraid of meaningful debate. She worked as a fashion buyer for Boohoo and was remembered for her warmth, humour, and lively spirit.
The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting complex issues around gun safety, alcohol misuse, and political tensions within families, even as legal outcomes differ between U.S. and U.K. jurisdictions.
