Sanwo-Olu Attends 50th Anniversary Of Late General Murtala Muhammed

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday joined dignitaries from across the country to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the late former Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, whose leadership continues to shape Nigeria’s political and administrative history.
The solemn event was held to honour the life and legacy of the military leader, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most decisive and reform-driven heads of government. In attendance were senior government officials, military officers, diplomats, traditional rulers, and members of the public who gathered to reflect on his contributions to national development.
Speaking at the commemoration, Governor Sanwo-Olu described General Muhammed as a symbol of courage, discipline, and national service, noting that his vision for a united and progressive Nigeria remains relevant decades after his death. General Murtala Muhammed served as Nigeria’s Head of State from July 1975 until his assassination in February 1976. Despite his brief tenure, he introduced sweeping reforms in the civil service, pursued an assertive anti-corruption stance, and redefined Nigeria’s foreign policy with a firm commitment to African unity and independence.
