Kaduna Governor Visits Freed Church Members After Weeks in Bandits’ Captivity”

The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, paid a visit to church members who were recently freed after spending weeks in captivity following a deadly bandit attack on churches in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.
The worshippers were abducted on January 18, 2026, when armed bandits invaded three churches during Sunday services in the rural community, kidnapping scores of worshippers and throwing the area into mourning and fear. The attack sparked nationwide outrage and renewed conversations around insecurity, especially attacks on places of worship.
Governor Uba Sani visited the victims at the Women and Children Shelter in Kaduna, where the freed church members are currently receiving medical attention, counselling, and psychosocial support. During the visit, the governor expressed deep sympathy for their ordeal and reassured them of the government’s commitment to their full recovery and safety.
According to the state government, 82 worshippers have so far regained their freedom, while efforts are still ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abducted victims. The governor commended security agencies for their efforts and emphasized that his administration remains determined to end banditry and kidnapping across Kaduna State.
