Football powerhouse FC Barcelona has formally submitted its bid to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final at the iconic Spotify Camp Nou stadium, marking a bold step toward bringing one of European football’s showpiece events back to the Catalan capital.

In an official statement, the club confirmed that it has entered the initial phase of the candidacy process, submitting the required documentation alongside support from the Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia, and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). If approved by UEFA, the proposed final would take place at the Spotify Camp Nou, which is currently undergoing renovation and expected to be fully modernised in time for the event.

The bid is part of the preliminary evaluation process ahead of UEFA’s final selection, with all final bid dossiers scheduled for submission by early June 2026. The ultimate decision on host venues for the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals is expected to be announced by the UEFA Executive Committee in September 2026.

Barcelona’s bid faces strong competition, notably from Wembley Stadium in London, another iconic venue seeking hosting rights. The Camp Nou would be hosting the Champions League final for just the third time in history if successful — the last occasion being in 1999 — making it a historically significant milestone for the club and the city.

Supporters and officials say bringing the final to Barcelona would not only spotlight one of football’s most legendary arenas but also reinforce the city’s status as a global centre for major sporting events.
