“I Told You to Build a Hospital and You Started With a Mortuary” — Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Tackles Contractor

A video of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, questioning a contractor over the sequence of work on a hospital project has gone viral and set social media abuzz.
During an inspection of the General Hospital construction site in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Governor Eno was seen challenging the contractor after discovering that construction had begun with a mortuary, gatehouse, and chapel instead of core medical facilities. In the clip, Eno interrupted the briefing and asked rhetorically, “Why did you start with mortuary? I said build a hospital and you start with a mortuary.” The governor also rejected a plan shown on the contractor’s mobile phone as inadequate for a project of such scale.
The exchange comes as part of Governor Eno’s ongoing effort to monitor and upgrade public infrastructure across the state, particularly in the healthcare sector, where his administration has rolled out multiple initiatives aimed at improving access to quality care for residents.
