Kogi Judiciary Workers Shut Courts Indefinitely Over Unpaid Entitlements

Judicial activities across Kogi State have been brought to a complete halt as members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kogi branch, begin an indefinite strike over unpaid entitlements.
According to the union, workers are owed several outstanding benefits, including salary arrears and leave bonuses, which they say the state government has repeatedly failed to address despite multiple appeals and promises.
The strike directive, which took effect immediately, instructed all judicial workers to withdraw their services, vacate court premises, and suspend all official duties until their entitlements are fully paid. This means no court sittings, no filings, no administrative processes, and no operational activities across all state courts.
The shutdown has already created a ripple effect on the justice system. Cases scheduled for hearing have been stalled, litigants seeking urgent judicial intervention are stranded, and legal processes such as bail applications are now on indefinite hold. Many residents who rely on the courts for their legal matters now face uncertainties and prolonged delays.
JUSUN leaders say the strike is not just about unpaid money but about fair treatment, welfare, and respect for workers who keep the judicial system functioning.
The union is urging the government to urgently resolve the financial issues to avoid further crippling of judicial activities in the state. Until then, courts will remain locked, and the strike will continue indefinitely.
