‘NO ONE HAS A MONOPOLY OF MADNESS’ — DELE MOMODU FIRES BACK AT WIKE’S DISMISSIVE COMMENTS
The political war of words between Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and veteran journalist Dele Momodu has taken a fiery turn, with Momodu declaring that “no one has a monopoly of madness” in response to Wike’s recent jab.
During a media briefing held on July 3, 2025, in Abuja, Wike had taken a swipe at the Ovation Magazine publisher, belittling him as irrelevant and forgettable. Reacting to Momodu’s criticism of his political affiliations, Wike said:
“There is this boy, they say he is a journalist. What’s his name? He is big.”
When journalists prompted that the person in question was Dele Momodu, Wike retorted, “Okay, I don’t remember all these names. He was never my friend. He ran for president, but he didn’t get one vote.”
Wike’s comments came as part of a broader dismissal of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which Momodu recently backed. Momodu had previously warned that Wike’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would diminish his political relevance and credibility.
Not one to shy away from a verbal duel, Momodu fired back on social media, lashing out at Wike’s tone and language. He wrote:
“NO ONE HAS A MONOPOLY OF MADNESS…”
He then described Wike as “uncouth,” a “money miss road politician,” and someone whose soul is “irredeemable.”
The escalating spat underscores the deepening cracks within Nigeria’s opposition bloc and the fierce personal rivalries shaping the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
