LIVERPOOL PLAYER DIOGO JOTA REPORTEDLY DIES IN CAR CRASH DAYS AFTER WEDDING

In a heartbreaking development, Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has reportedly died in a car crash at the age of 28—just days after marrying his longtime partner and childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

According to local media reports, the fatal accident occurred early Thursday morning in Zamora, a city near Spain’s northwest border with Portugal. Spanish news agency EFE confirmed that Jota’s brother, André, was also killed in the crash on the Rias Bajas Highway. It remains unclear at this time who was behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

The tragic news was reportedly confirmed by Pedro Proença, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, although Liverpool FC and Jota’s representatives have yet to issue an official statement.

Jota had only recently celebrated what many called a fairytale wedding. On June 22, he tied the knot with Rute Cardoso in Porto. The couple, who had been together since 2012, share three children. Jota had proposed in July 2022.

The Liverpool star shared a series of joyful wedding photos on social media, including a touching family portrait and a video captioned: “A day we will never forget,” alongside a white heart emoji. In another post, he wrote, “June 22, 2025 — yes to forever.”

The news of Jota’s sudden and tragic passing has sent shockwaves through the football world and beyond. Tributes are already pouring in from fans, teammates, and football organizations.
