TRICYCLE DRIVER RETURNS ₦4 MILLION, SAVES PASSENGER FROM SUICIDE
In a time when stories of honesty often seem scarce, a tricycle driver from Abia State has become the symbol of integrity and compassion.
On Thursday morning, June 26, 2025, Onyema Photo, popularly known as “Onye Photo,” made headlines in Aba for returning a forgotten sum of ₦4 million to a female passenger a Cameroonian national who had mistakenly left it in his tricycle, commonly referred to as “keke.”
The journey began at the Aba Main Park and ended at Ariaria Market. But it was only after the passenger had disembarked that Onyema discovered the forgotten bag stuffed with cash. He immediately swung into action, first searching the park and then heading to Ariaria Market, where he eventually found the distraught woman by a junction weeping, shaken, and reportedly contemplating suicide over the loss.
In a moment of quiet heroism, Onyema handed over the money, comforted her, and even advised her to lodge in a nearby hotel to recover from the ordeal. Touched by his gesture, she paid for his hotel recommendation and left in deep gratitude.
Despite taunts from some fellow drivers, who labeled him a “mugu” (fool) for not keeping the money, Onyema stood firm. “I love what I did,” he told reporters. “Yes, I need a new keke, but not with another woman’s money.”
A devoted Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa LGA, Onyema says his faith guided his decision. “I have made Jehovah’s name to be praised,” he said, beaming with contentment rather than regret.
As news of his deed spreads across Aba and social media, many have hailed him as a beacon of honesty in a country where such values are often challenged. His story now serves as a timely reminder: character still counts.
