TINUBU HOSTS FUBARA, WIKE, RIVERS ASSEMBLY IN CRUCIAL PEACE TALKS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday hosted key political stakeholders from Rivers State at the Presidential Villa in a decisive move to end the protracted political crisis plaguing the oil-rich state.
In attendance were Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers — marking a rare moment of unity amid months of political turmoil.
The closed-door meeting was the first time President Tinubu and Governor Fubara were seen together since March 18, when the president declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. That declaration had led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Dr. Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly, citing deepening insecurity and an executive-legislative deadlock.
Thursday’s meeting, however, has renewed hopes of a political thaw. Photographs released by the presidency showed Tinubu, Fubara, and Wike in a seemingly cordial atmosphere, smiling and engaging in what sources describe as a “frank and reconciliatory dialogue.”
Presidency insiders hinted that the dialogue made significant progress in addressing the grievances between the warring factions, which have stalled governance and heightened tensions in the state in recent months.
While the details of the resolutions reached remain undisclosed, the atmosphere following the meeting suggests that efforts toward restoring stability and collaborative governance in Rivers may finally be yielding results.
