BØMB BLAST K^LLS 11 IN KONDUGA, BORNO WITY MANY INJURED IN SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM ATT@CK

At least 11 people have been confirmed dead following a bomb explosion in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night, local security sources report.

The blast occurred in front of a local cinema, adjacent to the popular Konduga fish market, a busy hub known for drawing crowds, especially in the evenings. Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) confirmed the casualty figure and revealed that several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The wounded have been evacuated to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital for emergency treatment.

Security operatives have since cordoned off the area and launched investigations into the incident. Although no group has officially claimed responsibility, the attack bears the hallmark of Boko Haram, who have ramped up assaults on communities within Borno in recent weeks.

Konduga, located about 36 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital, has suffered multiple insurgent attacks in the past. The last major suicide bombing in the area was recorded nearly a year ago.

The deadly blast occurred just hours after Nigerian troops successfully repelled coordinated attacks by insurgents in Gwoza and Kukawa local government areas. The military has in recent weeks intensified operations in the region, reportedly killing hundreds of fighters, including senior Boko Haram commanders.

The resurgence of violence underscores the fragile security situation in northeastern Nigeria, despite ongoing counter-insurgency efforts by the Nigerian military.
