FUNKE AKINDELE HONOURS LATE MOTHER WITH EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE ON HER POSTHUMOUS 71ST BIRTHDAY

Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has penned a touching tribute to her late mother, Rachel Adebanjo-Akindele, in commemoration of what would have been her 71st birthday.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the actress shared a heartfelt message alongside a video montage of cherished memories with her mum, who passed away on February 7, 2023.

“Happy heavenly birthday to my darling mother!!!” she wrote. “Iya Bunmi, I want you to know that I’m working hard to build a life that makes you proud. I’m prioritizing my well-being, just as you advised, and striving to live each day with purpose and joy.”

Funke added that her family—herself, her siblings, and her children—are doing well and keeping her mother’s memory alive. “They always talk about you and pray for your soul,” she noted.

“Keep resting in perfect peace, Mum. Your love and legacy will forever be in our hearts,” she concluded.

Dr. R.B. Adebanjo-Akindele’s death was announced last year in a statement signed by Funke’s elder sister, Olubunmi Akindele, on behalf of the Adebanjo and Akindele families. The statement read in part: “It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to God Almighty, that the ADEBANJO and AKINDELE families announce the passing of their daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister, Dr. R B Adebanjo-Akindele.”

Since her passing, Funke has continued to honor her mother’s memory, frequently describing her as a pillar of strength and inspiration.
