TAIWO AWONIYI OUT OF COMA, RECOVERING AFTER EMERGENCY SURGERY

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, is reportedly out of an induced coma and recovering steadily following emergency surgery for a severe abdominal injury.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international was placed in intensive care after colliding with the goalpost during Nottingham Forest’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Sunday. Despite the impact, Awoniyi initially returned to the pitch but was later forced off after struggling to move, with Forest having exhausted their substitution options.
According to Mail Online, the complex surgery was successfully completed on Wednesday, May 14. Medical staff continue to monitor the striker closely, with sources confirming that he is now awake and surrounded by family members at the hospital.
The incident, which unfolded in the final moments of the match, raised concern as Awoniyi tried to push through the pain in a bid to help his side secure a crucial win in their battle for Champions League qualification. His bravery was evident, but the extent of the injury quickly became clear, prompting an emergency response.
Nottingham Forest and fans across Nigeria and beyond have since sent messages of support, wishing Awoniyi a full and speedy recovery.
