OGUN BROADCAST JOURNALIST, BUKOLA AGBAKAIZU, DIES SUDDENLY WHILE ON DUTY
The Ogun State media community is mourning the sudden death of Bukola Agbakaizu, a veteran broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), who tragically passed away while on duty on Monday, May 12, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Agbakaizu collapsed unexpectedly as she prepared for her afternoon shift at the state-owned television station. Despite swift efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
“Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically collapsed while preparing for the afternoon shift, and despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” the NUJ statement read.
Described as a “versatile journalist and passionate comrade,” Agbakaizu was a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and served as an ex-officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council until her death. She was known for her vibrant spirit, deep commitment to journalism, and active role in the union’s leadership.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, also expressed grief over her passing. In a statement, Chairperson Mrs. Sekinat Salam described the late broadcaster as “a dedicated media professional” whose wealth of experience and leadership were invaluable to the association.
“Her compassion, dedication, love, and passion for the pen profession will always be remembered,” Salam said. “Though she passed on at the age of 52, her devotion to God and service to humanity will continue to live on in our memories.”
Agbakaizu is survived by two children and her aged mother.
