NOTTINGHAM FOREST’S TAIWO AWONIYI IN INDUCED COMA FOLLOWING EMERGENCY SURGERY

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been placed in an induced coma after undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, following a traumatic injury sustained during Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international suffered a ruptured intestine after a heavy collision with the goal post in the dramatic 2-2 draw at the City Ground. Despite receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch, Awoniyi attempted to continue playing but was visibly in pain.

Forest medical staff carried out further assessments on Monday, leading to the immediate decision to rush him to hospital after the extent of the injury became clear. He underwent urgent surgery on Tuesday, and doctors have since placed him in a medically induced coma—a standard procedure intended to limit physical movement and stabilize his heart rate during recovery.

While the situation remains serious, sources close to the club confirm there is no indication that Awoniyi’s condition is life-threatening. In a statement, Nottingham Forest noted the forward is “recovering well so far” post-operation.

The football community has since flooded social media with messages of support for the striker, who has been a key figure in Forest’s attacking lineup since joining the club. Further updates on his condition are expected in the coming days.
