POLICE LAUNCH PROBE INTO DEATH OF FIVE CHILDREN FOUND IN ABANDONED VEHICLE

The Nasarawa State Police Command has begun an investigation into the tragic deaths of five children whose lifeless bodies were discovered in an abandoned vehicle in the Agyaragu community, Obi Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking incident and ordered a full-scale inquiry to uncover the circumstances that led to the children’s deaths.
According to the police, the victims—aged between six and ten—were found locked inside an unserviceable vehicle parked at the residence of one Mr. Abu Agyeme. The discovery was reported by a concerned resident, Mr. Ozimna Ogbor, around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“Upon arrival, officers found the children unresponsive and immediately rushed them to Aro Hospital in Agyaragu, where a doctor sadly confirmed all five dead, likely from suffocation due to extreme heat,” Nansel stated.
The police noted that due to severe burns from heat exposure, the children’s bodies were released to their families for burial, following formal requests.
Commissioner Jauro-Mohammed has also issued a strong caution to parents, guardians, and vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure children are not left unsupervised around parked or abandoned vehicles.
This tragedy echoes a similar heartbreaking incident in August 2019, prompting renewed calls for greater public awareness and preventive action.
