Nigerian activist Adetoun has sparked debate online after sharing a video of herself confronting a woman who brought her 11-year-old daughter to help sweep an estate as early as 4:30 AM.

The woman, employed by the estate management for cleaning duties, had brought her daughter along since it was a public holiday. Upon seeing them, Adetoun, a resident of the estate, approached the mother and expressed her disapproval, stating that making a child work under such conditions amounted to child labor.

“You don’t bring an 11-year-old girl as early as 4:30–5 AM for child labor. I am not going to listen to your predicament. Don’t ever bring this girl out,” Adetoun warned. She further threatened that authorities would intervene if the child was seen sweeping again.

Her video has since sparked mixed reactions. While some Nigerians praised her for advocating for the child’s rights, others criticized her approach, arguing that she publicly embarrassed the mother instead of offering support.

The incident has reignited discussions on child labor, poverty, and the fine line between intervention and public shaming.
