A heartbreaking tragedy has struck the Dagbolu community in Osogbo Local Government Area, Osun State, as 25-year-old Joseph Abodunrin reportedly took his own life, with sources attributing his struggles to the worsening economic conditions in the country.
Joseph’s cousin, Abodunrin Grace, confirmed his passing on Thursday via a post on X, sharing the immense pain of losing her brother. She described him as a source of encouragement to others, always wearing a smile while concealing his inner turmoil.
“I’m shattered by this news. You were an incredible brother, always uplifting us, yet you felt you had to voice your pain in a way we never anticipated,” she wrote. “You hid your suffering so well, and now we are left grappling with the loss.”
In her emotional tribute, Grace stressed the importance of mental health and urged people to prioritize their well-being in the face of life’s challenges.
Haunting Tweets Reveal His Struggles
Before his passing, Joseph had shared distressing messages online, hinting at his deteriorating mental state. He often spoke about his younger siblings, expressing that their dreams and hopes were the only things holding him back from ending his life.
In a tweet dated January 31, 2025, he wrote:
“If not for my siblings, I would not commit suicide. I don’t want to crush their hopes with my death.”
However, on March 24, the day he took his own life, he posted a series of alarming messages:
“I’m sorry I failed you all. I just couldn’t do it anymore… You won’t understand!”
“My passwords are on the first page of my diary. Goodbye!”
A tweet from March 9 had already hinted at his despair:
“Is it really worth the fight? I don’t know anymore.”
Unresolved Circumstances Surround His Death
Despite Joseph sharing the location of the incident, his body has not yet been recovered. Reports indicate that the site in Dagbolu is no longer active. Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command stated that they were unaware of the situation but promised updates as investigations unfold.
Joseph had celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025, just weeks before this devastating event.
