Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has criticized popular pastor Apostle Femi Lazarus after the cleric condemned gospel artists for charging fees to minister in churches.

In a viral video, Apostle Lazarus claimed that many gospel singers have turned ministration into mere performances, warning that they would soon fade away. He argued that those asking how singers will pay their crew members lack scriptural understanding, as God will supply their needs.

Reacting in the comment section of an Instagram blog, Dakolo strongly disagreed, stating that gospel ministers are not beggars and deserve to be paid for their work. He urged those unwilling to pay guest artists to instead invest in their church choir and compensate them fairly.

Timi Dakolo’s Response:

“A quote can sound deep yet be untrue. Gospel musicians deserve the best in life. Studio sessions, production, and promotion cost money. They have families to feed and rent to pay. Stop attacking people’s work.”

“If you can’t pay guest artists, develop and pay your church musicians. Stop the gaslighting! Gospel ministers are not beggars. Churches spend large sums on architects and promotions, so why belittle musicians?”

“Ministry needs music, and music needs ministry. It takes years of dedication to become an elite musician. Pay your singers well, and let’s stop these unnecessary attacks.”
